Frequently Asked Questions

What impact will it have on our power bill by switching to energy efficient windows?

Beginning in 1992, with help from ENERGY STAR®, American families and businesses were able to save $297 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 2.1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2013. Every Pella® Product meets or exceeds ENERGY STAR certification in all 50 states and most of Canada. How will this affect you? Not only could you find a decrease with your heating and cooling charges, you’ll also help protect the environment.

How much will my replacement door or replacement windows project cost?

Our windows and doors are specifically designed and made-to-order for your home, meaning no two projects are the same. Our wide variety of products make it hard to discuss pricing without first bearing in mind your needs and the project results you envision. Due to this nature, we find it helpful to send out a Pella sales representative who will provide you with a quoted project price once they have seen the project site itself. To speed up the process, your Pella® sales representative is equipped with a computer and a portable printer so that they can provide you with all the quote information you’ll need—just as soon as the sales representative has had a chance to consider the requirements of the task and brings them to life with your vision.

In addition to offering a wide variety of first-rate products to choose from, we also have a generous offering of payment and finance options. Pella is uniquely-suited to offer you great window and door products at affordable prices, providing you with a chance to make the renovations you want to while building great value into your Boston area home all the while.

Can I paint my vinyl windows?

The benefit of Pella's® vinyl windows is that you don’t have to. The windows can be customize to the color your want. We do not advise painting your vinyl products, as this will void your warranty. Some paint companies claim that their paint can work on vinyl, but it could ruin your windows if the wrong paint is applied or done incorrectly.

What should I use to clean my glass windows?

We advise that you use a prepackaged vinegar-based cleaning mix or use an ammonia-free glass cleaner such as Windex or Sparkle. You can also make your own with one part vinegar to ten parts water. Put the solution on a soft, clean microfiber cloth or paper towel. We do not suggest using glass cleaners that are ammonia- or alcohol-based as they could produce streaks or create a film that draws moisture and dust.

Do Pella® employees actually install your replacement windows and doors?

Pella uses dependable installers who are certified to install Pella products. We require them to complete a carefully crafted set of training courses so that your windows and doors are installed properly and meet Pella’s strict warranty standards. We find the best Boston-local people and recruit them to install our projects. Before we hire anyone, Pella requires them to pass a drug test and background check. Our installers are fully covered by liability and workers compensation insurance. Aside from Pella product warranties, your installation is also covered for 10 years under the installation limited warranty and service agreement.

What's different about buying replacement windows and doors from local Pella® showrooms versus buying from retailers like Lowe’s?

Pella provides services and support that “big box” stores can’t match. Our specialty is selling, installing, and servicing Pella Windows & Doors. Having a dedicated Pella sales team, project manager, local service technicians, and expert installers means that your renovation will have the expertise of our whole team. We frequently use the term “single source accountability”, meaning that there’s no one to chase down regarding a product, installation, or warranty issue. You can easily contact your sales representative or our main office if you have any concerns and we will get to work resolving the issue.
